Something to Think About

Along our vanity sink in my suite-style dorm, my roommates and I have placed a small white board where we often leave messages for each other or simple messages of encouragement. I also like to keep a tally of what week in the school year we’re at – it really puts into perspective how fast time goes!
This week, I decided to write a thought-provoking statement on the board. It reads as follows:
In HAPPY moments, PRAISE God.
In DIFFICULT moments, SEEK God.
In QUIET moments, TRUST God.
In EVERY moment, THANK God.
Those who walk with God ALWAYS reach their destination.
I found this saying on Monday afternoon, when my anxiety about being back to school was at its peak (it has now left me completely – funny how that always seems to happen each year!). Each statement is simple and straightforward, yet it also makes us stop and think:
Do I remember to PRAISE God when something great happens in my life? Do I thank him for his grace and generosity in bestowing the gift?
Do I actively SEEK God when I am having trouble at school, work, or home? If my relationship with a friend or family member is shaky, do I ask God for help to strengthen that relationship? If my days seem difficult and out of my reach, do I ask for guidance and help?
Do I seek QUIET moments throughout my day and use them to trust in God’s plan for me? I spend my days surrounded by activities and constant connection via technology. Am I taking the time to sit in peace and meditate on where God is present and not present in my live?
Do I remember to THANK God at every moment throughout the day, whether it’s a positive or negative moment?
Those who walk with God ALWAYS reach their destination.
This first week of classes is almost over, but this simple statement will not lose its significance. It is the perfect saying to print out and post in a place where you spend the majority of your time. When you’re happy, upset, or lost, turn to it. Each time you read it, find a new work or verse that applies to you at that very moment and meditate on the words. God will take it from there.
