Chance - Change

Currently, I have this quote written on my whiteboard in my room as a daily reminder that change can be good.

Why do we struggle with change? Why do we crave tradition, order, and schedules? What is it about change that stirs up fear in us?

I know for me personally, I have always struggled with change. Honestly?

I.

Hate.

It.

One of the reasons I dislike change is the fear of the unknown principle that accompanies it. If I make a change in my life, what will the outcomes be? Will the repercussions be beneficial or harmful? As a clear-cut Type A personality, I like to know the answers to such questions right away.

But neither realistic nor plausible.

If I continue to go through life living in accord to a set schedule every day, never exploring the impact change could have in my life, how will I ever experience all that God has in store for my life?

If I continue to rely on chance instead of implementing concrete changes, will I still be happy with my life in five or ten years?

As I approach graduation from UNL, I continue to think about this principle of chance versus change. I am about to graduate with a degree in Fashion Design and a Business minor, yet, I am planning on starting a nutritional health coaching program near the end of the year. This is a big change for me, almost a complete turn from what I studied at UNL. But, I'm hoping that with this change will come new experiences, new people, and new ways to share my passions of nutrition, fitness, and fashion to the world. But in order to do so, it has to begin with a change from what I'm used to, a change that pushes me out of my comfort-zone.

Am I ready for this change? Honestly, I’m not sure yet. But I know that I can’t spend the rest of my life driven by the fear of the unknown.

What changes do you need to make in your life? Where do you need to be pushed out of your comfort-zone? Think about the question throughout the rest of your week. What comes to mind?
