Monday Updates and {New} Workout

What a day it's been! I don't have class on Monday's, but I spent most of the afternoon working nonstop on homework for this week. I leave for Chicago on Friday and don’t return until Monday evening, so I needed to be on top of my week’s assignments!

Why am I going to Chicago? I am a buyer at Roxi’s Elegant Bridal in Norfolk, NE, and every year for the past five years, my boss, my mom, and I have traveled to Chicago to pick out our new inventory for the year. We buy wedding gowns, jewelry, bridesmaids, prom, flower girls, and more. It is an amazing experience, and I am grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to go for the past five years! But, it’s not all fun and games – this is a business trip, with a little bit of fun thrown in to the mix! Here’s picture from last year:

This morning, I ran a few errands in town before heading to the rec center. Here’s an outline of the workout I completed this morning:

5 rounds:

  • 10 hip bridges with weight

  • 10 jump squats

  • 10 back rows each side

  • 10 overhead tricep extension

  • 10 squats with weight

  • 10 burpees

Then:

21-15-9 (do 21 reps of each move, then 15, then 9)

  • Front squat – I used 55#

  • Burpees

9-15-21

  • Regular back squat – I used 85#

  • Burpees

3 x 10 on three different machines targeting my back (not sure what the machines are called, but they’re big, red, and intimidating! I only just learned how to use some of them last week!)

60-45-30 seconds (do each move for 60 seconds, then each for 45 seconds, then each for 30 seconds)

  • Deadlift and alternating shoulder raises

  • Lunges and shoulder press

I finished the workout with 10 more burpees before stretching.

After my workout, I grabbed lunch at the Lewis Training Table, a place on campus not many people know about. It’s in Memorial Stadium, and it’s where the athletes eat. As a student at UNL, if I make a reservation, I can eat there at no charge. I love the Lewis Training Table because it has kale on the salad bar and a better overall selection of healthy foods. I sat near the football team today; let’s just say they were very very very loud! Following an intense workout, I always make sure to get plenty of protein in my post-workout meal or snack. My next post in the Paleo Series will be on protein, so stay tuned!

Then, this afternoon, I finished up some Finance homework and took a lengthy quiz (it took me over an hour), created a study guide for a test this week, typed a document write-up review due next Tuesday, and started on a case study analysis for my Entrepreneurship class. After a quick supper, I’m finally doing something I wanted to this afternoon – writing a blog post! And tonight, I will probably do a bit more studying for my Group Fitness Instructor class while watching Monday Night Football (sorry, what else is there to watch on TV these days besides football???) before heading to bed!

What’s your week like? Busy or not so much?

P.S. I never stopped watching the Husker game on Saturday. I was there the whole time! How about you? #GBR
