Overthinking

Overthinking.

I am guilty of overthinking every single aspect of my life on a daily basis. I search for answers through overthinking scenarios because I hate the fear of the unknown.

But, honestly, overthinking really has not gotten me anywhere. On the contrary, most of the time, it gives me anxiety about the future. It causes me to worry and fret about millions of scenarios that will never actually happen. It wastes valuable time, time that I could be spending talking with my roommates, enjoying nature on a walk, sleeping…

Because I can now recognize that I tend to overthink situations far too much, I’m starting to try and take a step back when I find myself falling into my overthinking patterns. If I examine the rationality of my thoughts, I often realize that they are irrational and a complete waste of my time.

However, this is an ongoing process. It takes time to break a habit that is genetically engrained in me (thanks dad!). But, I know that with time, prayer, and support, I can make the switch and enjoy the experiences life has in store for me, instead of overthinking myself to death.

Do you overthink? Do you spend far too much time worrying about your decisions, the future, tests, money, or friends? Don’t worry. Obviously you are not alone. Just remember that often we are the happiest and have the best life experiences when we are spontaneous and let God be in control.
