Game Day Lessons

Another Saturday has come and gone, and another heartbreak has been tallied in the loss column for the Husker football team.
Today, debuting the alternate uniforms for 2015 (which I loved, by the way!), the Huskers couldn’t pull out a tough, tight win over Northwestern. Our offense dropped passes while our defense allowed one too many big-yardage plays. We simply couldn’t make plays when we desperately needed to make them. The result? A 28-30 loss on our home turf.
Despite all this, I still have faith in my Huskers and Mike Riley. We’ve been hit hard by fate this season, but I know that, with time, our team and coaches will reward the fan base with consistency. Adjusting to such a huge change in the coaching staff will take time. I only hope that the loyal Husker fan base will continue to support the team with positivity as this change occurs.
Like Mike Riley said after the game, the players and coaches that want to continue to grow, develop, and get better will be practicing football on Monday. They will take ownership for the loss today and be ready to move on, learning from their mistakes. Dwelling on this game and the other losses this season provides little benefit. Ultimately, the team needs to move forward, using the past as a mechanism for future growth.
This same, simple principle can be applied to life as well. Dwelling on the past keeps us living in the past. Instead, when we choose to focus on our present situation and what our current goals for growth are, we take a huge step forward into a positive future for ourselves, a future full of growth and development.

What part of your past do you find yourself revisiting far too often? What lessons can you take from that time or experience to help propel towards new goals and growth?
Meditate on these questions. I’m sure you’ll surprise yourself by the insights and answers that arise!
